The holiday season is rolling in, meaning that gift-giving and shopping spirits are high. However, many people worry about shopping from corporations like Amazon or Target in their efforts to support ethical consumption. Buying from local businesses offers an individualized experience while providing the opportunity to support your fellow community members. Moreover, shopping from local businesses supports the overall local economy. Here are Nordic’s favorite small businesses to find the perfect gift for a loved one this season.

 

  1. Snapdoodle Toys and Games

Snapdoodle Toys and Games is a locally-owned business that is dedicated to fostering fun and creativity in their community. They have four store locations in the Seattle area: Kenmore, Redmond, Seattle and Issaquah. Snapdoodle offers a variety of unique toys and games that you will not find anywhere else, as well as complimentary gift wrapping services. Their products cater to all ages, from infants and toddlers to teens and adults. In light of the pandemic, Snapdoodle Toys is offering curbside delivery and in-store pick-up to minimize contact. You can also have your toys shipped directly to your home or schedule a private shopping appointment with them. Snapdoodle is a wonderful place to complete all your holiday gift shopping and help your loved ones of all ages experience a magical holiday!

Love, Hayley is a black-owned small business based on Instagram. Supporting black-owned businesses is increasingly important now with the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, since shopping from such businesses is a way to actively support and help the underserved. The account, @shoplovehayley, has amassed almost 3,000 followers due to the owner’s incredible and affordable clothing designs. The shop offers a wide range of products, from graphic tees to denim jeans. For the next few weeks, customers may utilize the code “LOVEYOU” for 20%off of their purchase total at checkout. Their easy to navigate website makes Love, Hayley an amazing option for your holiday shopping this year.

 

  1. Yakima fruit market 

The Yakima Fruit Market is a family-owned and operated business in Bothell, Washington. Their Christmas tree season starts the day after Thanksgiving. They offer large selections of fresh Christmas trees and mistletoe that are perfect to decorate your home with this holiday season. Their nursery also has many different vegetable and flower plants makes for a beautiful garden or a great holiday gift. Additionally, they offer a variety of fresh and locally grown produce with reasonable prices. After all, nothing brings people together more than good, quality food.

Wanderstone Jewelry Co. is a small business also based on Instagram and online. The business offers a wide selection of colors, cuts and designs of gemstone necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Their account, @wanderstonejewelryco on Instagram, has accumulated 3,200 followers over its year of operation. They will be releasing a website for a smoother shopping experience on Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. EST. Additionally, Wanderstone Jewelry Co donates a portion of their proceeds to a selected cause each month. In November, they donated 10% of their proceeds to the SW Mutual Relief Fund to support the underprivileged in the United States. The business’s beautiful designs and its charitable actions make it the perfect place to shop for those who enjoy uniqueness.

Mediterranean Kitchen is a local business that serves authentic Mediterranean food in several locations, including Kirkland and Bellevue.
