Inglemoor’s student section and sports fans, nicknamed the “Viking Ship,” certainly had a lot to cheer for this season.
Students, teachers and community members showed up for every home game at Pop Keeney Stadium, despite a tightly-packed home football schedule early in the season.
The IHS football team — captained by Dallas Adsit, Zach Eubanks, Georgio Varvarigos and Hudson Cowan — went undefeated at home, beating opponents Fife, Sammamish, Redmond and Newport. Overall, they held a regular season record of 6-2 and won their first playoff game against Highline on Oct. 30 with a score of 48-6. Their best season in over 20 years ended with a 14-51 loss to Bellevue on Nov. 7.
The IHS cheer squad is captained by Kelsey Marx, Keoni Matsumoto, Ellie Miggins and Cara Proudfit. Repping Inglemoor from the sideline, their squad consistently led the student section through Inglemoor’s favorite cheers and were joined by the Viking Junior Cheerleaders for their halftime performance on Sept. 27.
The IHS viking band is led by Senior Drum Major Arya Bailey and Junior Drum Major Danny Hughes. The marching band performed four halftime shows and played music from The Weeknd, Earth Wind & Fire and more. On Oct. 10, they honored their 18 seniors at their halftime show by welcoming the seniors’ families onto the field and playing the hit song “Save Your Tears.”
Lastly, the student section — ranked No. 2 in Washington state, according to the Student Section Report — cheered throughout the many highs that the Inglemoor football team experienced at home. Consisting of hundreds of students from all four grades, the Viking Ship supported the football team, cheer squad and band all season long.
