The cover uncovered: issue two

In Nordic’s second issue of this school year, senior Sonya Sheptunov drew the cover using symbols associated with mental health.

One of the symbols she used was the semicolon in the purple background. The non-profit, Project Semicolon, popularized this symbol to support those who have mental health issues or have lost someone to suicide.

According to NBC News, mentally healthy people associate themselves with lighter colors such as yellow. On the other hand, people with mental health issues associate themselves with darker colors such as dark blue. These two colors — blue and yellow — were characterized by two hands on the cover. The use of clasped arms conveyed an intimate, strong bond between two people.
