Nordic and Scandia honored at WJEA conference

Inglemoor High School students took home 10 out of the 100 awards given out at the WJEA (Washington Journalism Education Association) conference in Puyallup on March 21.

Nordic and Scandia Staff members received six honorable mentions: Teagan Miller in News Writing, Sunny Hong in Editorial Writing, Casie Moe in Sports Feature Writing, Lily Aksan in Editorial Cartooning, Chris Beswetherick in Newspaper/Newsmagazine Layout and Amelia Shull in Visual Communications.

Inglemoor also received three excellents: Sarah Evered in Yearbook Feature Writing, Aaron Huang in Sports Feature Writing and Liora Silkes in Headline Writing/Copy Editing.

Keaton Freet received a superior in Photo Editing/Caption Writing.

Nordic adviser Kirsten Vesely was named Washington’s Adviser of the Year!

Hailey was raised in multiple places in unincorporated King County. She is a junior at Inglemoor, and a first year reporter for Nordic News. She is also the manager of the Nordic News website. Hailey once tragically passed up on the opportunity to see Bill Nye speak at Bumbershoot, something that she has regretted since that day. She hopes to sometime in the future live in a city with an NHL team, as long as it isn't LA or Boston.
